Description Logic Reasoning

Description logic-based knowledge representations not only store human knowledge in a machine-readable form, but also provide the option to automatically infer new RDF statements via reasoning, find contradictory statements in a knowledge base if any (consistency checking), and determine concept satisfiability, i.e., check whether a concept can ever have instances. These tasks are usually performed with reference to a knowledge base or a TBox.

The visualization of the hierarchy of the subclass-superclass relationships between concepts, called the subsumption hierarchy, provides the option to easily overview the knowledge domain model. Consequently, calculating the subsumption hierarchy is one of the most common reasoning tasks.
