Accessibility
A web development technique to create websites usable by everybody, including people with visual, auditory or mobility impairments and the ones with intellectual disabilities.
CSS
Cascading Style Sheets. A language that describes document semantics (appearance, fonts, colours, margins, general layout) of a web document written in a markup language, mainly HTML or XHTML. One of the major concepts of CSS is to separate HTML/XHTML content from its appearance, i.e. distinguish style from structure.
DOAC
Description Of A Career. A semantic vocabulary that describes the qualifications, skills, working experience, publications, spoken languages and expertise of a worker in a strict XML format. These information can be shared and processed automatically. ~ is compatible with the European Curriculum (Europass) which can be generated from a FOAF+~ file. Highly recommended for professionals and academic people.
ERCIM
The European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics collects researchers to work in cooperation on various fields of ICT and applied mathematics included, but not limited to, information systems applications, information storage and retrieval, information interfaces and presentation, data encryption, and database management. Scientific approach is ensured by twenty organisations.
FOAF
Friend Of A Friend. An XML file describing our “friends”.
HTML
HyperText Markup Language. Prior to XHTML it is used as the primary language of the Web.
HTML to XHTML
A website development service which “rejuvenates” the markup of Web documents by converting old, often incorrect codes into well-formed XML documents.

IETF
The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a standards organization focused mainly on internet protocols. IETF standards are generally on lower levels website developers interested in, however, even the well-known TCP/IP has also been beveloped by IETF. PSD to XHTML+CSS
A website development service with the aim of creating modern web document with the combination of XHTML markup and style sheets according to a multi-layer graphic designed in industry-leading image processing software Adobe Photoshop.
RDF
A W3C acronym for Resource Description Framework, an XML specification for metadata models. A general method for conceptual description and information modelling implemented in web resources. ~ can be used with a variety of syntax formats. RSS
Really Simple Syndication. An XML format for frequently updated content, e.g. news headlines, blog entries. It combines summarized text and metadata, most often the date of publishing, news category and authorship. Additionally, ~ provides a way through compliant applications (Microsoft Outlook, Windows gadget etc.) to check the news of websites without web browsing. Modern websites usually have at least one ~ file. Also known as “feed”, “news feed”, “web feed”, or “news channel”.
SVG
Scalable Vector Graphics. An XML format that describes vector graphics. Since represented images are defined by geometrical primitives in the forms of mathematical equations, these graphics can be zoomed in and out (i.e. scaled) without distortion or quality reduction (which is a feature of raster graphics such as photographs).
Sec508
Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a US act. According to ~, for disabled people access must be given to information that is comparable to the access available to others. From the web development point of view, ~ conformance can be obtained while accessibility considerations are taken into account. It is similar to WCAG.
Semantic Web
Unlike the conventional Web which is the “Web of documents”, ~ is the “Web of data”. It provides metadata readable by software. These metadata enable automated agents to perform tasks automatically and locate information on behalf of the user.
WaSP
The Web Standards Project. Founded by professional web developers, ~ tries to spread the application of web standards published mainly by W3C. The organization focuses on standard support, accessibility and making development easier. Website: webstandards.org.
W3C
Founded and directed by Tim Berners-Lee (“the inventor of the Web”), the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the largest international organization for developing standards for the World Wide Web. Website: w3.org.
WAI
Web Accessibility Initiative is a W3C initiative for improving web accessibility.
WCAG
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. A collection of web development guidelines. The major aim is to make content accessible, primarily for disabled users, but also for browsers running on mobile phones and PDAs that have highly limited capabilities.

XHTML
Extensible Hypertext Markup Language. A family of XML markup languages.
XHTML5

XML
Extensible Markup Language. A strict set of rules for encoding documents in a form that can be read by software.
Retouching
Digital image processing for photo enhancement and manipulation. Sharpening, noise reduction, colour enhancement, distortions, and artistic filters are some examples for ~ techniques.
1080p
A High Definition (HD) video mode with 1,080 horizontal scan lines, HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), 16:9 aspect ratio, and progressive scan (all lines of each frame are presented in sequence). Also known as full HD. ~ videos are generally stored on Blu-ray Discs (BDs).
3D video
A video that enhances entertainment with the illusion of depth (the additional impression of the third dimension). Special camcorders equipped with two separate lenses are used to record ~. Similar effects can be created from conventional video by adding an offset, however, the quality is not the same. An appropriate TV, an advanced Blu-ray player and special glasses are required for playback.
Blu-ray authoring
The full process of recording and editing Blu-ray video. Often includes additional services, e.g. cover/label design and printing.
Full HD video

VHS to DVD
A video service for transferring old videos recorded on VHS (Video Home System) cassettes to DVD Video discs. The process involves digitalization of analogue signals stored on tapes. Although the DVD Video format supports more advanced features than VHS, the output will be VHS quality. However, noise can often be reduced, along with the potential to add Menus and Chapters to the movie, making it possible to directly access certain positions (the highlights selected by the client) during playback.
